Introduction to Rawalakot 'Black Day' Demonstration
Greetings. I am Mahpara Kashmiri from Jammu Kashmir TV. According to Jammu Kashmir TV representative Ajmal Shaheen, a program was organized regarding the Black Day at D-Chowk in Rawalakot, Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Report by Ajmal Shaheen from Rawalakot, Jammu Kashmir TV.
Look, thieves have entered Kashmir. Oh, look, thieves have entered Kashmir. Those who... ...have left our 53 dangling, look, thieves have entered Kashmir.
Ground Dispatch from D-Chowk
At this time, I am present in D-Chowk, Rawalakot, Pakistan-administered Jammu Kashmir, which has been newly named Umar Farooq Chowk. Here, regarding the Black Day, a program has been organized. Let's proceed and update you with the details of the program.
Address on Political Division and Constitutional Status
Nobody spoke against this move. The reason was that all their masters had already made deals, and were bent on permanently dividing our state. This was an act of grace from nature, a blessing from it, that at such a moment when a person is overnight made Prime Minister, and 48 votes are cast for him, certainly,
when votes are cast from all parties, it was brought for a certain purpose. But nature did not approve of this, and I understand and believe, that whenever the state of Jammu Kashmir was attempted to be divided, sometimes in the form of Vajpayee, sometimes in the form of Musharraf, or in any form, whenever India and Pakistan took steps to usurp parts of our state, or make the Control Line a permanent border, or made any effort towards division,
nature always caused that effort to face defeat. And behind this, I believe, are those people in Indian-occupied Jammu Kashmir who, with absolute sincerity, made sacrifices for the freedom of their homeland, and offered the gift of their lives. Certainly, by the virtue of their sacrifices, none of their tricks or steps has reached its logical conclusion, nor will it, God willing, reach it in the future.
In this context, the rumors currently circulating that the Pakistani government wants to change the status of this part of the state through some amendments, or are planning to turn it into a province, or want to erase our identity along with Gilgit-Baltistan, then I will say only one thing explicitly through your platform: just as today we are protesting against India's move, against Indian aggression, against Indian oppression and tyranny,
Public Grievances Over Basic Healthcare and Facilities
and are observing this Black Day in protest, Such conditions have developed inside Azad Kashmir that all ten districts of Azad Kashmir, and all the tehsils across Azad Kashmir, all the constituencies of Azad Kashmir, today nowhere has a protest like this taken place. What is the reason? Because in Azad Kashmir, whatever is happening to us
is equivalent to extreme oppression and injustice. The Kashmiri nation will not tolerate this injustice and oppression under any circumstances. Today, I say one thing to you, what have we demanded from the government of Pakistan? You all know about the charter of demands. The first thing we asked for
is that in the hospitals of Azad Kashmir,
Slogans Demanding Revolutionary Change and Rights
there are no MRI machines, they have no operation... From the blood of our martyrs! Revolution, revolution! Who will bring revolution? We will bring revolution! Free! Kashmir! Free! Kashmir!
There is a general slogan, please respond to that as well. Even if we have to die, we will bring revolution! Even if we have to die, we will bring revolution! Even if cut into pieces, we will bring revolution! We will lift the cross, we will bring revolution! We will lift the cross, we will bring revolution!
Poetic Critique of Regional Governance
I invite Mr. Altaf Dawood Sahib without delay. No matter how much force you use, give me an answer to this. Give an answer, give an answer, give an answer.
Those who have made a place for themselves on high positions through their schemes, They think they are safe inside their shelters. Give an answer, give an answer, give an answer. Those flatterers and lackeys won't win this battle. Those flatterers and lackeys won't win this battle. They have always sought support, but their intentions were flawed.
Oh, all you sycophants and stooges, give an answer, give an answer, give an answer.
A public demonstration observed as 'Black Day' was held at D-Chowk in Rawalakot, Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Reported by JKTV representative Ajmal Shaheen, the gathering brought together local residents, political figures, and poets to voice grievances against ongoing political arrangements. Speakers criticized policies concerning the division of Jammu and Kashmir and rejected any moves that would make the Line of Control a permanent border. Participants highlighted severe deficiencies in public infrastructure, pointing specifically to the lack of basic healthcare facilities and MRI machines in local hospitals. The protest featured fiery slogans and poetry demanding basic democratic rights and administrative accountability.
Analysis
Source and framing: Published by Jammu Kashmir TV (JKTV), the report focuses directly on grassroots political dissent in Rawalakot, Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The framing centers local public dissatisfaction with both state neglect and broader geopolitical arrangements, giving prominence to local community activists and speakers rather than official state viewpoints.
Fact-check: Speakers at the rally pointed out severe shortages in healthcare infrastructure across Azad Jammu Kashmir, specifically citing the lack of diagnostic tools such as MRI machines in public hospitals. They also addressed political speculation regarding potential constitutional amendments altering the status of the region. While the lack of healthcare facilities aligns with widely recognized local grievances, claims about specific political maneuvers reflect the perspectives and assertions of the speakers.
Kashmiri perspective: The report highlights the realities of people living in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, illustrating how public discontent touches both overarching political issues—such as the unresolved status and division of Jammu and Kashmir—and day-to-day survival concerns like public health. The demonstrators rejected unilateral attempts to divide the historic state and stressed their desire for genuine self-determination.
Across the line: The frustration over administrative neglect, lack of democratic control, and poor civic infrastructure in Rawalakot mirrors the chronic difficulties faced by citizens across the Line of Control in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Communities on both sides of the line of division continually struggle against policies decided in distant power centers.
Rights and democratic freedoms: The gathering illustrates the exercise of freedom of assembly and expression in Rawalakot, where local residents publicly challenged the state, chanted slogans against injustice, and demanded accountability. It also brings forward the right to health and dignity as vital human rights that remain unmet.
Voices missing: The footage exclusively shows male participants and community leaders at the podium. Missing from the coverage are the voices of women, youth, healthcare workers directly dealing with hospital deficits, and representatives from the local administration or Pakistani authorities to provide their responses.
Editorial takeaway: The Rawalakot protest serves as a reminder that political rights and civic well-being are inseparable across divided Jammu and Kashmir. Genuine progress is impossible as long as the people on either side of the Line of Control remain deprived of democratic agency and fundamental public amenities.
